Environmental Quality Committee Projects

Since 2003, EQC has worked/been working on the following projects. Many of these projects need to be revitalized! To propose a project, see "how to get your project implemented":

  • Bringing speakers and events to campus (Sustainable Solutions caravan, David Orr, etc.)
  • Earth Day/Week programming
  • Increasing organic and local food in the dining halls, working towards a farm-to-college program
  • New recycling and trash cans around campus
  • Increasing awareness of recycling and what can be recycled on campus
  • Institution of the Green Bikes program and its Cycles for Success campaign
  • Waste awareness campaign in the dining halls
  • Instituting double-sided printing in the computer labs
  • Encouraging recycling in the Coop Fountain
  • Coordination of and outreach for ink cartridge recycling
  • Research into a battery recycling program
  • Consultation with the Coop Fountain and Sagehen Cafe regarding their food choices
  • Efforts to reach first-year students about environmental impacts on campus
  • Use of the digester, table tents, and other outreach methods to tell people things they can do to reduce waste and consumption
  • Dialogue with Grounds about overwatering and ground moisture-sensing sprinklers
  • Housekeeping staff education program to ensure consistency in recycling programs
  • Working with Grounds to increase the use of native and drought-resistant plants in landscaping
  • Implementation of a program to lend students compact fluorescent lightbulbs
  • Hosting of organic dinners, both homecooked and in the dining halls
  • Trips to the Claremont farmers' market
  • Conception of this website!
